The Power of Our Voice in the Legislative Session
By Britany Sproul, HHU Co-Executive Director & UHOPE Chair
If you’ve been wondering why this newsletter is a little late, let’s just say I’m still recovering from the whirlwind of the legislative session! Keeping up with fast-paced hearings, last-minute bill changes, and running on plenty of focus (and maybe a few too many chocolate snacks) was no small feat—but it was all worth it!
This session proved once again that homeschool families can make a real impact when we show up and speak up. Homeschool Hub Utah is proud to be a founding member of UHOPE (Utah Home Education Organizations for Parental Empowerment), a coalition dedicated to ensuring that homeschooling families have a voice in legislative decisions. Together, we successfully worked with lawmakers to advocate for parental rights and educational freedom. One of the key victories of this session was the passage of HB209, which was signed into law last week. This bill, along with others we supported, reinforces the right of parents to direct their children’s education without unnecessary government interference.
That said, advocacy isn’t HHU’s primary mission—our heart is in equipping parents with the resources they need to educate their children at home. We do this through our extensive groups and co-ops directory, helping families find the right community to support their homeschooling journey. We also provide a free marketplace, which connects parents with educational vendors offering classes, curriculum, and unique learning opportunities.
With the rise of UFA funding, vendor marketplaces are popping up everywhere—but what makes ours unique? HHU was the first to create a homeschool marketplace in Utah. Our listings are regionally organized, making it easy for families to find local resources, and our vendors (many of whom are homeschoolers like you) can also purchase advertising space on our website to connect with more families.
Homeschooling in Utah is strong because we stand together. Whether it’s advocating for our rights or ensuring families have the tools they need, HHU is here to support you.
